“A dot. A bubble. A universe. You are the center.” – Mohan Sundaresan
Mohan Sundaresan was born in Bangalore, India in 1945. He moved to London in 1965, and then Vienna, Austria in 1968. While in Austria, energized by the vibrant art culture, and inspired by the works of Bischoff, Hundertwasser and Brauer, he began a career in textile design. Longing to see the world, he was soon traveling to the rest of Europe, Brazil, Thailand, and the USA. From these voyages, he gathered many inspirations for his designs.
In 1995, he moved to California and immersed his energies in interior decorating, and shortly after, in painting. Starting on canvas, and then working on wood panel with oil, his works melded together the spiritual traditions of Kolam and Rangoli with the expressive colors and bold abstractions of modern painting. In 2005, after a 4 year assistanceship under Andreas Nottebohm, he began his own work on aluminium. Now living in La Jolla, California, and inspired by the works of Miles Davis, William Turner and Zao Wou–Ki, Mohan is constantly creating new works of art on metal, wood, canvas and paper.
